About Us
Helen Scaife founded Scaife Day Care in 1987. At the time, Ms. Scaife provided family day care services in her home. She became certified from the stateof Wisconsin, and the first African American woman in the state to become family accredited. As you can see Helen Scaife stops at nothing less than full success. In 1996 she expanded her operation by renovating the garden center building at the old Sears retail facility on North 22nd Street and North Avenue and began provided group child care services. Then in 1997, Ms. Scaife purchased and renovated the first floor and annex of her current location at 531 East Burleigh Street. The building (an old dairy barn) had previously been the home of the East Side Housing Action Committee (ESHAC). The Scaife Day Care business continued to grow and serve the community, and in 2002 Helen Scaife completed the final phase of the remodeling project-expansion to the third floor of the Burleigh location. Today, our 14,500 square foot facility provides ample space for every child enrolled at the center.
